This may be a strange thing to write, but I really do appreciate the cleaning staff that works in my office. I know our center takes great pride in its appearance, and the cleaning staff makes sure that it can.
And personally, I love coming in to a tidy workspace, clean desk, emptied trashcan, etc.
What I don’t love, is coming into a completely reorganized desk. And by “reorganized,” I mean “everything in random piles pushed off to the sides.”
I like to think of my desk as organized chaos – but it’s still organized with everything where I want it, sorted by project and priority. Frankly, it sends my OCD into overdrive to come in and find things out of order.
To be fair, it might be better this way than when the cleaning staff moves only one or two things. I’ve sat down at my desk at times to see my coffee mug in a slightly different place, or my phone at a slightly different angle than I thought I left it, and it makes me wonder if I’m going crazy, if I’m imagining things.
At least now, with everything moved, I know that it’s not just in my head.
Not this time, anyway.

They move the stuff on your desk? Ewww. That would drive me up the wall. I too have my stuff organized in piles, but they’re mine and I know where everything is. Thankfully our cleaning crew is not nearly as efficient as yours.
You could always try leaving a note asking them not to move the stuff, but I don’t know if that would work.
It’s tempting. I just worry about discouraging them from cleaning the space in general.
HA. I seriously need that picture to hang in my cubicle.
I like to believe it’s true.
If someone moved my stuff on my desk I would be PISSED. I have it in an unorganized organized mess and I like it that way! Mainly because I can find everything. I swear I can.
Exactly. It only looks like a mess to the untrained eye.
Oh I get so frustrated with our cleaning staff. Not only did (I KNOW IT WAS THEM) steal my laptop… but my stuff is never where I leave it. They are constantly unplugging my things. I would like to be paid and just clean on my own.
Your laptop? Wow…yeah, I can see the frustration there.
our cleaning staff, while lovely, definitely doesn’t touch our stuff. including, like, the floor under our desks, which i wouldn’t really mind if they vacuumed more than once every month.
I’m actually surprised if our staff can get to the floor under my desk – considering I have about…seven pairs of shoes under there at this point.
i. would lose. my mind.
my piles are not just piles. they are ideas and plans and if they’re not crosshatched the way i left them, or on the left rather than right, they become gibberish.
OMG! Don’t touch my stuff!
I don’t want coming in with an unorganized desk also. It just ruins the start of your day. What I do is clean and organize my desk before I leave the office so that in the morning, I’m all set for my task.
Haha…I can think of only one reason why I would push all the stuff on a desk to one side (because I needed a flat clear surface for some fun activity, to spell it out)
Did you use cleaning spray and wipe it down before use ?
